Unusually, I was in the cabin the other day and saw that there was another vessel showing on the AIS. On checking it had a Closest Point of Approach that was too close for comfort. So I got in touch on the VHF and they kindly changed course to give me a bit more leeway. While making sure they had in fact changed course I grabbed a flare (just in case they couldn’t see me as a white rowing boat in an ocean full of white capped waves is hard to spot) and had to scramble to find a pair of shorts to cover up with! (My current preferred rowing uniform is a long-sleeved shirt. And nothing else. Keeps the sun off while minimising sores.)
